Herodesk is changing name
One of the first things I did when I found the name for my company - Herodesk - was to buy all the associated domain names that I could find, with Herodesk.io as the primary one.
While .io is technically a so-called ccTLD (country-code top-level domain) that belongs to British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), I/O is also short for input/output, and therefore very popular among tech startups.
Anyway, I bought all the domain names I could get my hands on. We also own .dk, .se, .nl, .de, and so on.
Because I knew from the start that Herodesk should be more than a local, Danish business.
I wanted it to be an international business with customers from all over the world.
So obviously, I bought all the relevant domain names, both for local relevancy and to protect the brand.
The only one I couldn't get my hands on was the one I wanted the most: Herodesk.com
That changed just before Christmas, as I got the opportunity to buy the domain name from its previous owner.
So yes, the headline is a bit click-bait-ish, but nevertheless, I'm now renaming the business from Herodesk.io to simply: Herodesk ← with Herodesk.com as our new online home.
It might not seem important, but it’s about trust, clarity, and long-term optionality.
For most people (especially non-technical ones), a company’s website is assumed to end in .com. It's simply the default. And while having .io as our primary domain name isn't necessarily bad, it still signals “tech product” or “early-stage SaaS”.
We're ready to scale, and I want to build on the best platform possible!
We'll be moving our website, e-mail, etc., to their new home on our .com domain soon (with redirects from .io, of course).
This is another piece in the puzzle.
Last year we went from zero to one.
Now we're going from one to ten! 🚀
