Two years with Herodesk 🇩🇰

On Thursday, September 4th, it was exactly two years ago that we launched Herodesk!
Back then, we started from zero. And when I say zero, I mean: ZERO!
Zero customers
Zero users
Zero income or revenue
A few months prior, I got the idea of Herodesk. I saw a gap in the customer service market for small and medium-sized businesses.
They were underserved. There were (and still are) different tools and solutions, but none of them are really built for that segment.
They're either too big and complex, too expensive, or can't (or won't) provide the customers with the support and service they need.
Btw., I love the irony in companies offering a tool to help customer service whose own customer support sucks... Think about that for a minute...
Anyway, I saw a gap in the market and got a chance to do what I love: Build a great product and my own business
And that's the super simple formula that I've used to build Herodesk:
- Build a super simple product that is incredibly easy for the customers to use.
- Provide best-in-class customer support and never ever compromise on the customer experience.
- Ensure your customers are happy so they'll refer others to you.
That's it.
And the results so far?
Our product has evolved from what some would call an MVP (minimum viable product) to a fully featured helpdesk suite with multiple inboxes, channels, integrations and a lot of other super helpful (AI-powered) features that help our customers.
We now have 200 paying customers, who have more than 500 active users, who send over 12,500 messages from Herodesk to their customers every single day.
We've crossed €15.000 MRR (monthly recurring revenue), and we're on track to be cashflow positive in October this year
All of this is accomplished while remaining fully bootstrapped and independent, with no outside funding or investors, and a small team of me and two (and a half) amazing colleagues!
But all of this is only the beginning.
Our recent performance confirms to me that we've reached the promised land of product-market-fit.
- New customers are being onboarded and are actively using the product.
- Our churn is incredibly low (<1%).
- >40% of new customers are referred to us by existing customers.
So now, it's time to put the pedal to the metal!
We will invest significant amounts in growing the business and improving the product.
The first big update will be released in exactly a month from today: AI Agents!
We are building our very own AI Agents that'll produce suggested replies to inbound customer questions and also be capable of functioning as an autonomous AI Chatbot on their website.
I've joked about how easy it is to build a chatbot, but how difficult it is to build one that gives you a useful reply.
I stand by that.
So, among the things we're doing to achieve that, is to train each AI agent on our customers' previous conversations (tickets), help centre FAQ and articles, Google product feed, website scrape, uploaded files, deep e-commerce integrations, etc.
